Peachtree Rd. in Atlanta - 1812 Const. from Indian trail, GPS maps and History - The most famous street in Georgia predates the city of Atlanta by several years. As the first Georgia settlers pushed westward into the Cherokee and Creek Indian territories, a military road was constructed from Fort Daniel in Hog Mountain to the Chattahoochee River in the future NW Atlanta. By using GPS technology we were able to display the original route on a single map, possibly for the first time. Logically, the road could have been called the "Hog Mountain Road", but apparently 'wiser' minds prevailed!
