GARMIN International, the leading manufacturer of navigation and communication devices, is pleased to announce StreetPilot^â III.

The StreetPilot III offers true turn-by-turn navigation in North America’s major cities with its auto routing feature.At the touch of a button, consumers will now have access to the shortest and fastest routes, turn directions, and estimated time of arrival at their intended destination.Along the way, the StreetPilot III provides automated voice prompts, alerting the driver to necessary turns, distance to upcoming turns, course deviation, and distance to final destination.

Like StreetPilot and StreetPilot ColorMap, the StreetPilot III is compact and portable.This dash-mounted unit can be operated by your vehicle’s battery using the included cable, or by six AA batteries.Voice commands are provided through a combination 12-volt power adapter and external speaker system.The StreetPilot III can easily be viewed in any lighting condition, thanks to its 4-inch, high resolution, 16-color display.The unit’s built-in basemap provides detail for interstates, interstate exit data, highways, rivers and lakes in the United States, Canada and Mexico (no exit data for Mexico), plus commonly used streets in metropolitan areas.With the press of a button, the built-in basemap will provide turn-by-turn guidance to a destination via interstates and highways.With downloaded maps from the MapSource^TM City Navigator CD-ROM, StreetPilot provides turn-by-turn guidance down to residential street-level detail.

Included with the purchase of StreetPilot III, is a 32 megabyte data card that can be programmed with data from the new MapSource City Navigator CD-ROM (included with purchase).City Navigator is designed specifically for the StreetPilot III and contains detailed street maps for major cities.This mapping software allows for automatic routing and even contains turn restrictions and other information.By simply entering an address or intersection or pointing at the map, the StreetPilot III will automatically calculate a route and provide turn-by-turn directions to that location.Users can also look up services and points of interest and view the address, phone number and map location.

The StreetPilot III as packaged contains virtually everything required for optimum performance.Accessories which are not included in the standard configuration are listed below; availability March, 2001.It is important to note that both the carrying case and friction mount are compatible with the existing StreetPilot and StreetPilot ColorMap.Pertaining to Detailed Coverage Areas (DCA), the customer receives a single DCA (customer chooses from one of the predetermined coverage areas) with the purchase of StreetPilot III.There are currently 10 DCAs that together provide coverage for the United States and Canada.To gain access to a DCA, the customer must have the DCA unlocked, which can be done through GARMIN via our Web site or phone.Additional DCAs may be purchased as indicated below.
